Some remedies are for courses of treatment; this one is for the twenty minutes after a wedding dinner. Minto is mint, menthol and carom in a syrup that goes to work almost as soon as it is swallowed, cooling the burn and moving the trapped wind. Made under DRAP licence at Laraib’s Multan pharmacy and sized for the medicine shelf at home.
What it is traditionally used for
- Traditionally taken for indigestion and the burning of an acid stomach
- Used to relieve bloating, trapped wind and gastric fullness
- Long taken to settle nausea, retching and vomiting
- Traditionally used to stop sour belching after rich or oily food
- Taken in Unani practice for stomach complaints generally, including cholera-type upsets
- Used to sharpen a dull or absent appetite
How it is made
Mint is steam-distilled for its aromatic water rather than flavoured with essence, and the distillate is blended with ground carom, ginger and cardamom in a lightly reduced syrup. Everything is single-origin and the mint comes from named growers. No artificial flavour, colour or synthetic antacid is added.
How to take it
Adults take two teaspoons three times a day after meals; children over five take one teaspoon. For sudden heaviness or a sour stomach take a dose neat and sip a little warm water afterwards. Before a heavy dinner, a spoonful taken in advance saves a good deal of discomfort.

- Refrigerate after opening; a chilled dose is more soothing

My son is eleven and gets nausea on long car journeys. One teaspoon half an hour before we leave and he is fine all the way to Islamabad. That alone was worth the price.

Does what it says for gas and heaviness. Quite sweet, which I would rather it was not, but the mint is genuine. Arrived from Multan to Faisalabad in four days, well packed.

I had constant acidity in my third trimester and my doctor approved this. It cooled everything within minutes and tastes pleasantly of mint rather than chemicals. Far better than the chalky tablets.

Wedding season in Multan is hard on the stomach. Two spoons after a heavy dinner and the burning never arrives. I keep a bottle in the car now.
