Every household has its version of the evening cup, brewed when someone starts sniffing at the dinner table. Laraib’s Joshanda is that cup, standardised: liquorice root for sweetness and soothing, banafsha for the chest, unnab and sapistan to ease a raw throat. Pour on boiling water, let the steam do half the work, and drink it hot.
What it is traditionally used for
- Traditionally taken for quick relief from cough, nazla and the common cold
- Long used to drive away the aches of flu and mild fever
- Taken to soothe a sore, scratchy or hoarse throat
- Traditionally drunk to loosen a tight, congested chest
- Used in every season, not only winter, whenever a chill takes hold
How it is made
Each herb is sourced single-origin, sun-dried and cut to a decoction grade rather than powdered, so it releases slowly in hot water instead of clouding the cup. The blend is weighed to a fixed classical ratio and packed into a foil pouch that keeps the aromatics intact. Nothing artificial, no added sweetener.
How to take it
Put one heaped teaspoon into a cup, pour over freshly boiled water, cover and leave for three to five minutes, then strain. Drink it as hot as is comfortable, two or three times a day. A little honey suits a raw throat; a slice of ginger deepens it in cold weather.
Good to know

- DRAP registered under Product Ent. No. 0803812152
- Pure herbal blend with no sugar, colour or flavouring added
- Reseal the pouch tightly and keep it away from steam and damp

Ordered three pouches before the cold season. Smells wonderful when the boiling water hits it. My son had a chesty cough for a week and this loosened it more than anything else we tried.

Very good and properly herbal, though you must strain it well or you get bits at the bottom. Slightly stronger than the joshanda my mother made in Sialkot, so I use a smaller spoon.

I teach and lose my voice by Thursday most weeks. Two cups a day with a spoon of honey and the hoarseness clears. The pouch lasts me about ten days.

We drink this all through the Peshawar winter. I brew a pot in the evening for the whole family. It is far better than the sachets from the shop, which taste mostly of sugar.
