Read the four names and the formula explains itself: saunf for the gripe, ajwain for the wind, podina for the nausea, badiyan for the sweetness and the breath. Unani compounders settled on this quartet a very long time ago because each herb covers what the others miss. Laraib has made it to the same ratio since 1998, on the same stills in Multan.
What it is traditionally used for
- Aiding digestion so heavy food moves without sitting like a stone
- Expelling trapped wind and gas from the stomach and gut
- Helping in nausea and in the queasiness that precedes vomiting
- Relieving the ache and cramp of an unsettled stomach
- Supporting the everyday working health of the stomach and liver
- Helping dissolve surplus body fat over a sustained course
How it is made
Fennel, carom seed, mint and aniseed each go through their own slow steam distillation, then the four arqs are combined in the traditional proportion and rested before filling. Every seed and leaf is single-origin and checked on arrival at our Multan plant. Nothing artificial joins them — no sugar, no colour, no essence, no preservative.
How to take it
Take 30 to 60 ml after meals, or twice a day as a standing routine if your digestion is generally slow. Straight from the fridge in summer, warmed slightly in winter for the wind-clearing effect. Children over ten may have half the adult measure after a heavy dinner.

We keep this in the shop fridge in Larkana and drink it through the afternoon. Helps the appetite in this heat when nobody feels like eating. Third order from Laraib and quality has been consistent.

Effective and reasonably priced. The aniseed comes through nicely so it does not taste medicinal. My only note is that the bottle is heavy to pour from when full, so we decant into a smaller jug.

Karachi food and late dinners had wrecked my digestion. A capful after dinner every night for a month and I sleep properly again. No burning, no heaviness. Genuinely surprised at how well it works.

I am sixty two and have taken chuarqa most of my life, from three different makers. This one has the strongest ajwain note, which is how it should be. It clears wind faster than anything from the chemist.
