The pomegranate has an old standing in Unani medicine as mufarreh wa musakkin — a fruit that lifts the spirit and settles it at the same time. Laraib presses anar from single-origin orchards at full ripeness, when the arils are dark and the juice runs almost wine-coloured, and reduces it slowly so what reaches the glass still tastes of the fruit rather than the sugar.

How it is made
Pomegranates are hand-sorted, deseeded and cold-pressed so the juice never takes on bitterness from the pith. It is clarified, sweetened and reduced over gentle heat until it reaches syrup body and that unmistakable ruby depth. Nothing artificial is added at any stage — no colour, no essence and no chemical preservative.
How to take it
Stir 2 tablespoons, roughly 30 ml, into a glass of chilled water, once or twice a day. It is at its best poured over ice at the hottest hour of the afternoon, and it takes very well to a splash of soda or a mint leaf if you are serving guests.
