Every Unani dawakhana keeps a warming oil for the winter aches, and Laraib’s Pain Oil is ours — a sesame base infused with the heat-giving herbs hakeems in Multan have reached for since 1998. It is made to be rubbed in slowly, in small circles, until the warmth settles into the joint and the muscle around it finally lets go.
What it is traditionally used for
- Massaged into aching knees, shoulders and other stiff joints
- Long used to ease muscular pain across the back and calves after hard work
- Applied over the affected side as supportive traditional care in falij (paralysis)
- Used in laqwa (facial palsy) in the Unani tradition, alongside a hakeem’s guidance
- Valued for nerve-related pains, tingling and heaviness in the limbs
- Rubbed in before bed on cold nights when old aches make themselves felt
How it is made
The analgesic herbs are steeped in a cold-pressed sesame base and drawn out over gentle, sustained heat rather than boiled — the slow method that keeps their volatile warmth intact. Seed and herb come from single-origin growers we have bought from for years. The oil is then filtered clear. Nothing artificial is added: no mineral oil, no synthetic fragrance, no colour.
How to take it
For external use only. Warm a little between the palms and massage 3–5 ml into the painful area for five to ten minutes, twice daily, until it is absorbed. Cover the area with a cloth afterwards to hold the warmth in. Best used after a warm bath, when the muscles are already relaxed.
Good to know
- 60 ml bottle with carton — roughly three to four weeks of twice-daily use
- DRAP registered under product number 0803812150
- 100% natural Unani formulation; free from mineral oil and synthetic perfume
- Keep the cap tightly closed and store away from direct sunlight

We have used Laraib oils in Sargodha for years. This one absorbs faster than the cheaper oils in the bazaar and does not stain the bedsheet, which for me is half the battle.

Works well on my shoulder after gym sessions. The herbal smell is quite strong for the first twenty minutes, so I use it at night rather than before leaving the house in Sialkot. Otherwise no complaints.

Bought it from the Multan shop first, now I order online. I stand all day teaching and my lower back used to be finished by Maghrib. Ten minutes of massage and I sleep properly.

My father is seventy-one and his knees stiffen badly in Rawalpindi winters. I massage this in every night after his bath and he now walks to the mosque himself for Fajr. The warmth stays for a good hour.
