Shahtra has been the standard musaffi-e-khoon, or blood purifier, in Unani practice for as long as the pharmacopoeias have been written. It is a slight, feathery plant that comes up in the wheat fields of Punjab in early spring, and its whole reputation rests on what it does for the blood and, through the blood, for the face. Laraib distils it at the height of its short season.
What it is traditionally used for
- Cleansing and purifying the blood, its classical role in Unani medicine
- Supporting the body through complaints traditionally attributed to impure blood
- Helping clear chhaiyan — the dark patches and blotches that settle on the face
- Easing pimples and acne when taken as a steady course
- Cooling and refreshing through the warm months
- Equally beneficial for men and women
How it is made
The herb is gathered fresh during its brief spring window, cleaned of field matter and distilled the same week so nothing is lost to drying. A slow steam pass carries the essence over, and the condensate is filtered cold before bottling. Our fumitory comes from a single growing belt. No sugar, no colour, no essence, no preservative.
How to take it
Take 30 to 60 ml morning and evening on an empty stomach, plain or with a little water. For skin concerns, the traditional advice is a continuous forty-day course rather than an occasional glass, taken through spring into early summer. Drink plenty of water alongside it and keep the diet light while the course runs.
Good to know
- Large 800 ml bottle, roughly a full traditional course
- Registered with DRAP under Product Ent. No. 08031080819
- 100% natural single-herb distillate with no added sugar
- Keep tightly capped and refrigerate once opened

My teenage son was very self conscious about his acne. Two months on this along with drinking more water and it is much calmer. No harsh creams needed. Delivery to Chiniot took three days.

Solid, honest product from a real manufacturer. Works slowly, which I think is the point. Four stars only because the price has crept up since I first bought it in Hyderabad last year.

I have had melasma patches since my second pregnancy. This has not erased them but they are visibly lighter after two bottles and my skin looks less dull overall. I take it first thing before tea.

I did the full forty days as my grandmother instructed. The small breakouts along my jaw settled by week three. Taste is grassy and a bit odd on day one, completely normal by day four. Ordering again for my brother in Mardan.
