Tabkheer-e-maida is the Unani term for the vapours that rise from an overworked stomach — what we now call gas and reflux. The complaint is old and so is the answer: fennel, carom and mint to move the wind, black salt and cardamom to cool the acid. Laraib’s version is finely ground and works within minutes.
What it is traditionally used for
- Neutralising acidity and the sour taste that comes up after meals
- Relieving indigestion and the trapped gas of tabkheer-e-maida
- Easing the bloating and tightness that follow a heavy or oily meal
- Settling nausea, the urge to vomit and light-headedness after eating
- Relieving stomach ache and cramping caused by wind
- Clearing the burning felt in the chest and throat
How it is made
Fennel and carom seeds are lightly dry-roasted to release their aroma, cooled completely, then stone-ground with mint leaf and green cardamom and sifted fine. Black salt is added last so it does not draw moisture during milling. Every botanical is single-origin. Nothing artificial is added — no synthetic antacid salts, no colour, no flavouring.
How to take it
Take half to one level teaspoon (about 3–5 g) with a little cool water immediately after meals, or whenever acidity strikes. It can also be taken plain, straight off the spoon, as many people do after dinner. Do not exceed three doses in a day without advice.
Good to know
- Supplied in a 60 g jar, easy to keep on the dining table
- Manufactured in Laraib Herbal Pharma’s DRAP-licensed facility in Multan
- 100% natural — no synthetic antacid salts or artificial ingredients
- Keep dry and sealed; the black salt will cake if left open

I travel for work and eat badly. Half a spoon after dinner and I sleep without that burning behind the ribs. On my third jar.

Very effective for bloating and wind pain. It is a little salty for my taste so I take it with more water. Arrived quickly and well packed.

My husband had reflux every night for years. This settles it faster than anything the chemist sold us, and it actually tastes pleasant — like fennel after a meal.

Keep it on the table in Karachi. After a plate of biryani one spoon and the gas is gone in ten minutes. Beats the chalky tablets I was living on.
