Ushna, or chharila, is not a plant of the fields — it is the pale lichen that grows on cold rock, gathered by hand and dried before it ever reaches a dispensary. Unani physicians have used it for the scalp for centuries, and Laraib infuses it slowly into a base of sesame and coconut oil so that its virtue reaches the hair rather than sitting in a jar of dried flakes.
What it is traditionally used for
- Massaged into the scalp to make the hair soft, smooth and glossy
- Applied over months to encourage hair that grows longer, thicker and stronger
- Long used to help hold back premature greying and keep the natural colour
- Rubbed into the roots to clear scalp dryness and sukri completely
- Taken up against steady hair fall and thinning at the crown
- Used on rough, brittle hair and on patches where growth has become sparse
How it is made
Hand-gathered ushna from a single mountain sourcing lot is cleaned, dried and steeped in cold-pressed sesame and coconut base oils, then held at low heat over many hours until the oil takes on the lichen’s colour and character. It is strained, rested and filtered clear. No mineral oil, artificial fragrance, colour or preservative goes into the bottle.
How to take it
Part dry hair into sections and work the oil into the scalp with the fingertips for ten minutes, three times a week, then comb it through to the ends. Leave for two hours, or wrap the head and leave overnight for the fullest effect, and wash out with a mild shampoo. Consistency matters more than quantity — give it three months.

Simple and it works. Scalp had been itching for years, gone in six weeks. I like that the ingredients are actually stated on the bottle. Delivered to Peshawar in three days.

My daughter’s hair was breaking off constantly after she started using heat on it. Sukkur summers did not help. This has repaired it more than any salon treatment we paid for. She oils it every alternate night now.

Good oil, my dandruff cleared within a month in Faisalabad. I bought it mainly for the greying claim and I cannot honestly say my grey hairs have gone. Still, the hair itself looks healthier so I am keeping it.

Three months in and the difference in thickness is real — my parting was widening and it has closed up noticeably. The smell is herbal and quite pleasant, not medicinal. Ordering again from Lahore.
