In many Pakistani homes the very first thing a newborn tastes after milk is ghutti. Laraib’s version keeps to that custom but makes it in a controlled pharmaceutical environment: fennel, carom and liquorice, mild enough for the smallest stomach, sweet enough that a baby takes it without a struggle, and consistent from one bottle to the next.
What it is traditionally used for
- Traditionally given to newborn and breastfeeding infants as a first herbal drink
- Long used to ease the everyday tummy discomforts that unsettle small babies
- Traditionally given for colicky stomach pain and trapped wind
- Used to help relieve constipation and hard, infrequent motions
- Given by mothers who prefer a naturally sweet preparation the baby accepts easily
How it is made
The seeds are gently warmed to release their volatile oils, then infused at low temperature so the delicate aromatics are not driven off. The infusion is finely filtered, brought to a mild strength suited to infants and filled into small bottles at Multan. Single-origin seed, nothing artificial, no harsh purgative herbs.
How to take it
Give half to one teaspoon (2.5 to 5 ml) once or twice a day, ideally between feeds rather than immediately after. It may be given straight from a clean spoon or dropper. Warm the spoon slightly in cold weather. Start with the smaller amount for a newborn.

Third bottle. Both my sisters use it too. It smells of fennel and cardamom, exactly like the ghutti my grandmother used to make at home, but I do not have to guess the quantities.

Ordered from Gujranwala, arrived in three days properly sealed. We give half a teaspoon at bedtime. The baby sleeps a longer stretch now and does not pull his knees up the way he used to.

Gentle and my son takes it happily, no fighting. It did take about four days before I noticed his motions becoming regular, so do not expect it to work in one dose.

My daughter is nine weeks old and used to cry through the whole evening. A small spoon of this after her afternoon feed and the crying stopped almost overnight. My mother in Lahore used the same brand for us.
