Every household with a young child keeps something for the bad nights, and in Pakistan that something has often been arq-e-shireen. It is the sweetened, softened version of the family digestive arqs, scaled down for a child’s constitution and gentled with mild carminatives. Laraib makes it under the Family Care line, in a small carton pack meant to sit in the medicine drawer.
What it is traditionally used for
- Relieving stomach ache and the griping cramps of infant colic
- Easing nafkh — flatulence and a tight, bloated little tummy
- Helping settle children through episodes of loose motions
- Calming vomiting and a queasy stomach in small children
- Soothing the restlessness and discomfort that come with teething
- Giving children a gentle lift when appetite and energy are low
How it is made
The carminative herbs are distilled separately and slowly, then blended to a fixed ratio and lightly sweetened so a child will take it without a struggle. Every botanical comes from single-origin suppliers and is tested before it enters the still. Nothing artificial goes in — no synthetic flavour, no colour, no alcohol, no added preservative.
How to take it
Shake gently before use. For infants over six months, half a teaspoon (about 2.5 ml) two or three times a day, given with a little cooled boiled water. Children of one to five years may take one teaspoon (5 ml) three times daily, and older children two teaspoons. Give after feeds rather than before, and keep the dose consistent rather than large.

Works well for tummy trouble and my two year old likes the taste. I only wish the bottle had a proper measuring cap instead of relying on a kitchen spoon. Otherwise no complaints at all.

We were sceptical about giving anything herbal to a toddler but our family doctor in Quetta said it was fine. It genuinely helps during teething week. Sweet enough that he takes the spoon without fighting us.

My six month old was up half the night with wind. Half a teaspoon after her evening feed and she settles within about twenty minutes. Three bottles in now. My sister in Okara has started using it too.
