Where plain mulberry syrup soothes, mulethi carries the comfort further down. Licorice root has been the Unani physician’s answer to a dry, barking cough for centuries, and pairing it with pressed black mulberry gives a syrup that works on the throat and the airways at once. Laraib blends the two in the classical proportion, so neither the fruit nor the root overwhelms.
What it is traditionally used for
- Relieving scratchiness, soreness and inflammation in the throat
- Easing the discomfort of enlarged, swollen tonsils
- Helping when swallowing food has become difficult and painful
- Traditional support during mumps and the tenderness that comes with it
- Quietening a dry, unproductive cough, especially at night
- Soothing inflammation along the breathing passages
How it is made
Mulethi sticks are cold-steeped and then gently decocted so the sweet, soothing fraction is drawn out without the bitterness that hard boiling brings. This decoction is married to freshly pressed single-origin black mulberry juice and reduced slowly with cane sugar. Nothing artificial goes in — no synthetic sweetener, colour, flavour or preservative at any stage.
How to take it
Adults take two teaspoons three times a day; children over five, one teaspoon. Sip it undiluted and let it sit on the throat for a moment before swallowing. The most useful dose is the last one, taken after brushing at night, when a dry cough tends to start. Warm water afterwards, never cold.

Solid quality and the seal was intact. Helped my throat considerably during a bad week. Price is fair for what it is, though I wish they made a family-sized bottle for households like ours in Sialkot.

Bought both the plain and the mulethi version to compare. For night coughing this is clearly the better one. My husband stopped waking at two in the morning by the second night. Karachi delivery was quick.

Works well for the dry cough I get after every cold. Licorice comes through more than the mulberry, which I did not expect — pleasant, but if you dislike mulethi you will notice it. Still ordering again.

My daughter’s tonsils flare every winter in Abbottabad and she refuses most medicine. This one she actually asks for. Three days of regular doses and she was eating properly again instead of pushing her plate away.
