Rose has never quite belonged to one tradition. The Unani physicians prized it as a coolant and a comfort to the heart; every household in the subcontinent knows it simply as the taste of summer. Laraib uses fragrant Rosa damascena petals from a single growing belt, working them into a syrup that smells of the flower rather than of a factory.
What it is traditionally used for
- Acting as a refrigerant and coolant during the hottest months of the year
- Lifting and supporting the heart, the classical use recorded on the pack
- Calming the nerves and settling a restless mind before sleep
- Refreshing the body and cutting through heavy summer thirst
- Serving as the traditional base for rose milk, falooda and cold desserts
How it is made
Petals are picked in the early morning while the oil content is highest and brought in from one growing region rather than blended from many. They are infused and distilled to draw out the true rose character, and that essence is combined with a slowly cooked sugar base. No artificial rose essence, colour or preservative is used.
How to take it
Two tablespoons in a glass of chilled water or cold milk is the everyday serving. Poured over ice with a little basil seed it becomes falooda, and a spoonful lifts kheer, custard or lassi. A glass in the evening is the traditional way to take it for its calming effect.

My grandmother in Multan will not use any other brand. She adds a spoon to lassi and to kheer. I have now started ordering it for my own house in Lahore as well.

Excellent quality and the fragrance lasts well in the fridge. My only note is that the 800 ml bottle is heavy glass and I would have liked more padding in the box for the trip to Quetta.

I take a glass with cold water about an hour before bed and I do sleep more easily. Bought it originally for falooda, kept buying it for that reason instead.

I make rose milk for the children in Hyderabad every evening through the summer and this is the first syrup that actually smells like roses when you open the cap. The colour is natural, not bright pink.
