Ahmed Shahi is one of those old court formulas whose name still carries a little of its origin — a compound of flowers and cooling herbs blended for the two organs Unani medicine treats as a pair, the heart and the brain. Laraib follows the classical blend closely, letting the floral notes rise rather than smothering them, so the syrup tastes as calming as it is meant to feel.
What it is traditionally used for
- Taken in Unani tradition during melancholy and low, heavy moods (malikholia)
- Long given when the heart flutters or races without cause (khafqan)
- Used to clear troubled and unwholesome thoughts from a crowded mind
- Given to bring an excess of black bile, sauda, back towards balance
- Taken for a sense of freshness and clarity in the brain
- Kept for restless evenings and nights of poor, broken sleep
How it is made
Dried flowers and herbs are sourced single-origin, then steeped slowly at low heat so their volatile aromatics are drawn out rather than driven off. The infusion is strained through fine cloth, sweetened and reduced gently to a clear syrup. Nothing artificial enters the bottle — no synthetic essence, no added colour, no preservative.
How to take it
Take 2 tablespoons, around 30 ml, diluted in a glass of chilled water, once or twice a day. Many prefer it in the evening, an hour or so before bed, when the mind is winding down. It also mixes well with cold milk if you want something more comforting.

Bought for my father in Hyderabad who has trouble settling in the evenings. Two weeks in he says he falls asleep faster. Bottle was sealed properly and packed with care.

Lovely syrup, genuinely calming with cold milk before bed. My only note is that the 240 ml goes quickly if two people in the house are using it, so order the larger bottle from the start.

My mother used to make something similar at home in Bahawalpur and I had almost forgotten the taste until this arrived. Very close to what I remember. She has started taking it in the afternoons for her palpitations, on her doctor’s approval.

I take two spoons in cold water after Isha. Islamabad summers leave me wired at night and this has become part of winding down. The smell of the flowers alone is half the effect. Third bottle now.
