By June in southern Punjab, the body runs hot and the bladder is usually the first to complain. Safoof-e-Thandak is the classical Unani answer: lettuce and purslane seed, white sandalwood, chicory and rose, ground into a pale, faintly sweet powder that cools from within. Laraib has made it every summer since the house was founded in 1998.
What it is traditionally used for
- Cooling heat and inflammation of the bladder in hot weather
- Relieving the burning and stinging felt while passing urine
- Soothing soreness and irritation along the urinary tract
- Bringing abnormal heat of the liver, kidneys and bladder back to balance
- Traditionally taken for general bladder discomfort and scanty urination
- Used as a summer cooler when the body feels overheated throughout
How it is made
Seeds are winnowed and stone-ground cool — never roasted, since heat is precisely what this formula works against — while sandalwood is rasped fine and rose petals shade-dried to hold their scent. All botanicals are sourced single-origin and blended by hand in small batches. Nothing artificial is added: no sugar, no colour, no preservative.
How to take it
Take one level teaspoon (about 5 g) stirred into a glass of cool water or chilled milk, twice daily through the hot months. Some prefer it in a glass of lassi at midday. Drink plenty of water alongside it, and keep away from very spicy and fried food while taking it.

Bought for the whole family during the heatwave in Sukkur. Everyone felt less overheated overall, not just the urinary side. Sealed jar, fast delivery.

Genuinely cooling and it helped my father’s discomfort within a week. Only note is that it settles at the bottom of the glass, so stir it and drink promptly.

Works quickly and tastes mild, faintly of rose and sandal. I take it in lassi at lunch. Much cheaper than the sachets the chemist sells for the same thing.

Every summer in Multan I get burning when passing urine. Two spoons a day in cold milk and it settles within three or four days. I now order a jar every May.
